Culminating capstone experience for senior dance majors combining all elements of dance concert production: choreography, rehearsal, performance, publicity/marketing, audience development, management, technical production and design. Supporting paper, production portfolio, and video documentation required under the direction of Chung-Fu Chang.

This course will approach ballet technique as a tool for artistic expression, while focusing on mental aptitude, decision making within phrasing and musicality, and the ability to articulate both physically and verbally. Classes will be centered around the ongoing examination of dynamic alignment, efficiency of movement, and the development of one’s own unique artistic voice under the direction of Joy Prendergast.

An exploration of World and Western Classical Music as it relates to dance performance, choreography, and pedagogy. Emphasis is placed on aural analysis of soundscapes, proper use of terminology, and practical application. Introduction to fundamental elements of music, including rhythm, tonality, and compositional structure under the direction of David McArthur.

Expanding fundamentals of advanced level modern dance technique with attention to movement initiation, breath, articulation, and expression under the direction of Judy Bejarano and Grace Gallagher.

This class begins to explore more advanced concepts in modern/contemporary dance technique, individual expression and performance. In addition to learning various styles of the 20th – 21st century modern techniques, students will explore the contemporary developments of the instructor.
